An insight into human cells

"TopoScan", an all-in-one system that is being presented at HANNOVER MESSE 2009 by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT) from Sankt Augustin, allows users to experience a journey of discovery into human cells. The device, which is used for scanning tissues and pathological sections, delivers extremely high optical resolution and enables spot measurements with exceptional sensitivity.

In contrast to conventional laser scanning microscopes, "TopoScan" looks directly into the cells and enables high-precision measurement of individual molecules. The laser can also trigger fluorescence events that provide in-depth information on the morphology and structure of the sample. The reflected light is pieced together to form images of the sample that - using intelligent, learning software - can be analyzed far more effectively than with conventional devices.
